A New Standard for Basketball Development

We Are Doing Things Differently

At Illinois Pro Academy, we are intentionally breaking away from the traditional AAU model.

IPA is built on a European-based basketball academy philosophy, where long-term player development matters more than empty competition. Our focus is on teaching athletes how to play the game the right way — with skill, intelligence, and purpose.

This is not a program built around chasing stats, highlights, or nonstop games. It is a program built around mastery, understanding, and sustainable growth.

Our Development Philosophy

We train the complete basketball player.

Our model emphasizes: Individual skill acquisition and refinement
Film study and basketball education
Cognitive training and decision-making
Team concepts and advanced game IQ
Movement without the ball, spacing, timing, and read-and-react principles

We move athletes away from what we call “empty-calorie basketball” — playing games without intention, development, or accountability — and toward basketball that translates to higher levels.

At IPA, players learn why they are doing things, not just what to do.

Bringing Passion and Purpose Back to the Game

Basketball should be about more than stats and cool tournaments.

At IPA, we are committed to bringing passion, discipline, and love for the game back to the forefront. We teach athletes to compete for their teammates, understand their role, and value growth over attention.

The result is players who:
Play with confidence and intelligence
Understand team basketball
Compete the right way
Are prepared for high school, college, and beyond

This model is first of its kind in Illinois, and potentially the country.

Our Team Model

Illinois Pro Academy will operate with one team per age group.

Each team will roster 15–20 players, allowing us to:
Maintain high-level teaching standards
Create real accountability

Ensure every athlete receives development, not just minutes

Each team will begin with a mandatory mini-camp, which also serves as the official tryout and onboarding process.

Training Structure

Beginning in April, all athletes will participate in:

Two mandatory team practices per week, focused on concepts, system play, and competitive execution

In addition, players will have access to:
Optional elite training up to five days per week
Led by coaches who specialize in specific skills such as shooting, finishing, footwork, and decision-making

This structure allows athletes to balance:
Team development
Individual skill growth
Academic and personal responsibilities

Competition Model: Quality Over Quantity

From March through the end of June, IPA teams will compete nearly every weekend.

Competition includes:
Local and regional tournaments
Select national events
Participation on the adidas Jr. SSB circuit

For major national events, 8–10 players from each team will travel or compete at that level. Selection is based on:
Commitment
Attendance
Readiness
Performance in training

We understand that not every athlete needs — or wants — the same level of travel.

Built for Real Life, Not Just Basketball

Our model allows space for:
Multi-sport athletes
Academic priorities
Family balance
Kids being kids

Athletes who do not travel to national events will still compete locally on the same weekends, running:
The same concepts
The same systems
The same style of play

This ensures that every athlete continues to develop, regardless of travel schedule.

Why This Model Works

This structure ensures:
High-quality practices
Meaningful repetition
Consistent teaching
Long-term development over short-term exposure

Every decision we make is centered around what actually helps players improve — not what looks good on social media.
